As a former HVAC contractor for several home warranty companies, I concur with the other service companies' negative remarks regarding these policies. Everyone involved is pitted against each other from the start, and everyone will get skinned contractor and customer alike except the home warranty company. These policies appeal to hungry contractors in saturated markets, and bad customers who want something for nothing. The customers we dealt with would become so angry and desperate they would literally harass and threaten us. It's illogical to believe you can get anything substantial for the mere $75 service fee the customer pays, which, in most cases, is all we could charge for the entire service call. Hence, the denials, long wait times and band aid repairs. Paying customers always come first, regardless of how many newborns are involved.
